MARRIAGEDAILY DEVOTIONALS

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up... A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." (v. 9-10, 12)
The Heart of the Matter
There is something uniquely meaningful about establishing a new life with the person you love. This past November, I did not merely gain a spouse; I gained a lifelong partner for the journey ahead.
We understand that addressing complex tasks—whether mending a fence or managing a business—is significantly more challenging when undertaken alone. King Solomon recognized this as well, reminding us that "two are better than one." In marriage, God provides a strategic partner—someone to share in seasons of joy and to offer support when the path becomes demanding.
The Third Strand
However, there is a crucial element for a marriage designed to endure: the cord of three strands. It is common to view marriage solely in terms of the two partners involved. Yet, if reliance is placed only on human effort, patience, energy, and communication will inevitably be depleted. The "third strand" is the Lord Himself.
When Christ is woven into the very center of a marriage, that connection is not easily broken. He provides the grace to extend forgiveness during difficult moments, the strength to serve when weary, and the capacity to love when emotions are lacking.
Cultivating Strength Through Service
Serving others is a fundamental aspect of a faithful life. I have found that one of the best ways to invest in a marriage is to view it as a primary area of service. True strength is found in intentionality—preparing a thoughtful meal, offering encouragement after a long day, or praying together before retiring for the evening. When the focus shifts from self-interest to mutual service, the relationship truly flourishes.
A Moment of Reflection
Strengthening the Bond: How are you reinforcing your "third strand" today? Take a dedicated moment to pray both with and for your spouse.
Practical Application: What is one small, practical way you can serve your partner this week? Consider managing a task they typically dislike or leaving a note of encouragement for them to find.
Prayer for the Journey
Lord, thank You for the profound gift of marriage. Thank You for bringing my spouse into my life and for the journey we have commenced together. I pray that You would be the foundation of our home—that indispensable third strand that holds us secure during challenging times. Help us to serve one another with sincerity, to forgive readily, and to always maintain our focus on You as we navigate life together. Amen.
