WISDOM

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction." (v. 7)
The Heart of the Matter
I’ll be the first to admit it—I am a worker bee. I love a plan, a project, and a busy schedule. But Proverbs 1 pulls us back and reminds us that all the hard work in the world doesn't mean much if we aren't starting in the right place.
Solomon tells us right out of the gate that the "beginning of knowledge" is the fear of the Lord. Now, that doesn't mean we’re shaking in our boots like we’re scared of Him. In our neck of the woods, it means having a deep, heart-felt respect for who God is. It’s acknowledging that He’s the Architect of this whole frontier, and we’re just the ones walking through it.
Wisdom is Calling Your Name
I love the imagery in the later verses where Wisdom is described as a woman calling out in the streets and the public squares (v. 20-21). She isn't hiding! God isn't trying to keep His best for us a secret. He is shouting from the rooftops, inviting us to stop doing things our own way and start listening to Him.
Wisdom isn't just about being "smart"; it’s about having the spiritual "know-how" to navigate the rocky patches of life with grace.
The Promise of Peace
The chapter ends with a promise that just makes my heart exhale: "But whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm" (v. 33).
Y'all, that is the kind of peace we’re looking for! It doesn't mean the storms won't blow, we know the wind is gonna howl eventually—but it means our house is built on a Foundation that won't budge.
A Moment of Reflection
Are you leaning on your own "know-how" today? Take a second to hand the reins back to the Lord.
Where is Wisdom calling you? Is there a specific situation where you need to stop talking and start listening for His "still, small voice"?
Prayer for the Journey
Lord, thank You for not leaving me to figure out this frontier on my own. I want my life to be rooted in a deep respect for who You are. Grant me a heart that listens for Your Wisdom in the middle of my busy day. Help me to choose Your way over my own way, and thank You for the safety and peace that only You can provide. In Jesus' name, Amen.
